Talks have emerged of a secret peace deal between the United States and Russia, which could push Ukraine into a difficult position.
News of these reports broke earlier this week, with anonymous U.S. official sources coming forward to outline a 28-point plan for ending the war but with heavy concessions to Russia at the expense of Ukraine.
These proposals included Ukraine conceding its eastern Donbas region to Russia, abandoning some categories of weaponry and cutting the size of its armed forces in half.
Ukraine could face some tough choices amid reports that the U.S. and Russia have secretly formulated a peace plan to end the war, potentially including significant concessions to Moscow.
The reports of this possible plan broke just one day before U.S. officials arrived in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, with the delegation, led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, “on a fact finding mission to meet with Ukrainian officials and discuss efforts to end the war”.
