United States equity futures were little changed on Monday night (Tuesday AEST), following a weaker Wall Street session that left August on a downbeat note, although the major benchmarks still posted monthly gains.
By 10 am AEST (12 am GMT), Dow futures and S&P 500 futures were each up 0.1%, while Nasdaq-100 futures were flat.
The S&P 500 gained 2.6% in August, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 3.9%. The Dow rose 1.3% for the month, marking its fifth consecutive monthly gain.
However, Wall Street finished August on a weaker note. The Dow fell 0.7% on Monday as oil prices climbed and pushed Treasury yields higher after the U.S. military struck two rocket launchers on Iran's Larak Island.
The S&P 500 declined 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite eased 0.1%.
Investors are also turning their attention to September, which has historically been one of the weaker months for U.S. equities.
Seasonal headwinds, combined with a busy economic calendar, are expected to keep markets volatile throughout the week.
Investors will be watching upcoming ISM manufacturing and services PMI data for further indications on the health of the U.S. economy.
The August jobs report will be released on Friday and is expected to show that U.S. employers added 58,000 jobs during the month.
