Uber Technologies has reported a 33% leap in net income for the second quarter of the 2025 financial year (Q2 FY25) as the number of riders and trips increased.
The ride-hailing and delivery company said net income in the three months ended 30 June rose to US$1.335 billion ($2.06 billion) from $1.015 billion in the previous corresponding period (pcp) on revenue, which grew 18% to $12.651 billion and gross bookings, which rose 17% to $46.8 billion.
Riders made 3.268 million trips, 18% more than in the pcp, driven by 15% growth in monthly active platform consumers (MAPCs) to 180 million and 2% growth in monthly trips by MAPCs.
Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) jumped 35% to $2.1 billion, and adjusted EBITDA margin widened to 4.5% of gross bookings from 3.9% in Q2 2024.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said Uber’s platform strategy was working with record audience, frequency, and profitability across its Mobility and Delivery business.
“But we’re still only beginning to unlock the platform’s full potential, now with 20 autonomous partners around the world,” he said in a press release.
Uber also announced authorisation for a new $20 billion share repurchase, which Chief Financial Officer Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah said underscored its confidence in the business after another quarter of strong top and bottom-line performance.
“Our trailing 12 month free cash flow hit a new all-time high of $8.5 billion and we remain committed to driving durable, profitable growth,” he said.
Including the contribution from Trendyol Go, Uber forecast 17% to 21% growth in gross bookings to between $48.25 billion and $49.75 billion on a constant currency basis and 30% to 36% growth in adjusted EBITDA to between $2.19 billion and $2.29 billion, for Q3, which was higher than analysts’ estimates.
Uber (NYSE: UBER) shares finished 24 cents (0.27%) lower at $89.22 on Wednesday (Thursday AEST), which capitalised the company at $186.57 billion, before slipping further to $89.01 in after hours trading.
