United States President Donald Trump said he is confident about how tariff negotiations are going with India.
“I think we’ll have a deal with India,” Trump said during brief remarks to reporters outside the White House.
“The prime minister, as you know, was here three weeks ago, and they want to make a deal.”
This comes after the Treasury Secretary said the U.S. was “very close on India”.
India and the U.S. are trying to strike a deal and secure mutual wins in a push to finalise key components of the proposed bilateral trade agreement before the targeted September-October deadline.
Bessent also revealed that the administration had talks with Japan over a possible trade deal, and “contours of a deal” with South Korea could be coming together.
The White House has been trying to secure trade deals in the weeks following Trump’s sweeping tariff announcements.
“We have 18 important trading relationships, we will be speaking to all of those partners, or at least 17 of them, over the next few weeks. Many of them have already come to Washington,” Bessent said.
