Semiconductor maker Micron announced that it will be opening a second manufacturing facility in Taiwan at the Tongluo site it recently acquired.
The site, which was acquired from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, includes 300,000 square feet of existing cleanroom space, the controlled area in which memory chips are produced.
Micron said the new facility would boost its manufacturing capacity for in-demand DRAM and high-bandwidth memory products.
“The Tongluo facility complements our Taiwan operations and is a critical component of our global expansion plans,” Micron executive vice president of global operations Manish Bhatia said.
The new site in Tongluo is expected to begin shipments in fiscal 2028.
The Idaho-based semiconductor maker also said it is planning the next phase of expansion of the site, with construction set to begin by the end of fiscal 2026 on a second facility of similar size.
Announcement of the new site also sent the company’s stock climbing.
During Monday's trade, Micron (NASDAQ: MU) stock closed up 3.68% at US$441.80.
