The South Australian government has secured a deal that will keep LIV Golf in the state until at least 2028.
The deal struck between organisers and the state government confirmed that two more tournaments will be hosted in SA and additionally, under an extension agreement with Greg Norman Golf Course Design the tournament looks set to remain in the state until at least 2031, if it moves to an upgrade course in Northern Adelaide.
In a statement LIV Golf said Adelaide was set to become the “exclusive home” for their Australian tournament , and that they expected this year’s event to exceed last years, which reportedly saw 94,000 fans flock to the The Grange Golf Club and over 40% of ticket holders travelling from outside SA, “proving the event’s massive tourism impact”.
The numbers behind the move have yet to be made public but South Australia (SA) Premier Peter Malinauskas said the exact tax-payer funded cost would be “within the state budget” and that his government was not “going to sort of skirt scrutiny in that regard”.
“This investment to do the upgrade of the North Adelaide golf course … will be a considerable investment, but we want to do it in conjunction with the council so that we aim to reach agreement with them.”
