Iran is reportedly willing to talk about ending the Middle East war.
Officials from Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence had expressed a willingness to engage with the Central Intelligence Agency in discussions aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with the United States, according to the New York Times newspaper.
The newspaper reported on Wednesday that the contact came via a third country’s intelligence service, citing unnamed Middle Eastern and Western officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
However, Washington officials remained doubtful about whether Iran or the Trump administration was ready for a diplomatic resolution in the near term, according to the report.
But a source from Iran’s intelligence ministry called the claims “complete falsehoods and psychological warfare amid war”.
The White House and the CIA did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to Reuters.
President Donald Trump commented on Tuesday that while Tehran might have been open to talks, it was “too late”.
