Commonwealth Bank has signed a landmark six-year sponsorship deal with Football Australia, becoming the largest backer of the country’s most played team sport.
The deal — reportedly worth over $10 million annually — cements CommBank as the naming rights partner for nearly every national team, including the Socceroos, Matildas, Pararoos, and youth squads like the Emerging Matildas and Emerging Socceroos.
The expanded partnership builds on CommBank’s 2021 entry into football sponsorship and extends its reach from elite squads to grassroots programs.
Since the original deal, women’s and girls’ participation has surged 27%, and Matildas' match attendance has more than doubled, with 17 consecutive sellouts between 2023 and 2024.
CommBank’s Growing Football Fund has also distributed grants to over 230 local clubs.
The agreement includes naming rights for the Socceroos starting 1 September, 2025, replacing Subway as the previous sponsor.
It also covers the Olyroos, Joeys, and all Matildas age groups. CommBank will support the flagship youth tournaments — now rebranded the Emerging Championships — designed to strengthen Australia’s talent pipeline.
Football Australia’s interim CEO Heather Garriock called the deal “transformational”, while CommBank CEO Matt Comyn said the 10-year partnership reflects a long-term bet on football’s cultural and commercial growth.
With the Socceroos heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Matildas hosting the AFC Women’s Asia Cup, the timing couldn’t be sharper.
