United States stock futures were little changed on Thursday night (Friday AEDT) as investors awaited pivotal economic data and a potential Supreme Court ruling on President Donald Trump’s tariff measures.
By 10:40 am AEDT (11:40 pm GMT), Dow futures, S&P 500 futures, and Nasdaq 100 futures were each trading within a range of ±0.1%.
In after-hours dealings, shares of Akamai Technologies sank 7.9% after the cloud computing group issued weaker-than-expected first-quarter guidance.
Gold miner Newmont fell 2.3% despite delivering adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.52, well above market expectations of $2.05.
Live Nation Entertainment gained 2.9% after posting stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter revenue of $6.31 billion, ahead of the $6.10 billion estimate.
Restaurant chain Texas Roadhouse climbed 2.5% after reporting that comparable sales at company-owned restaurants rose 8.2% in the first seven weeks of fiscal 2026.
By contrast, Copart tumbled 8% after posting fiscal second-quarter EPS of $0.36 cents per share, down 10% from a year earlier and short of the $0.39 expected. Revenue of $1.12 billion also missed estimates of $1.15 billion.
The moves followed a softer regular trading session on Thursday, when the S&P 500 fell nearly 0.3%, leaving the benchmark broadly flat for the year to date. The Nasdaq Composite also declined 0.3%, while the Dow dropped 267 points, or 0.5%.
Investors now turn attention toward the fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) report, with economists expecting GDP to rise 3%, following a stronger-than-anticipated 4.4% expansion in the third quarter.
Also due is the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, the inflation gauge preferred by the Federal Reserve. Economists expect headline PCE to show a 2.8% year-on-year increase, while core PCE, which excludes food and energy, is forecast to rise 2.9% over the previous 12 months.
Markets are also bracing for a potential ruling from the Supreme Court of the United States on the legality of Mr Trump’s tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
