United States stock futures were mixed on Monday night (Tuesday AEST) after the Dow Jones Industrial Average extended its winning streak, with investors preparing for a major week of technology earnings and the Federal Reserve's latest interest rate decision.
By 10 am AEST (12 am GMT), Dow futures ticked up 0.1%. S&P 500 futures were flat, while Nasdaq 100 futures fell 0.1%.
In after-hours trading, Cadence Design Systems gained 3.3% after the chip design software company reported second-quarter adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.11, beating the $2.05 expected. Revenue came in at $1.58 billion, in line with expectations.
Universal Health Services shed 4.6% after lowering its full-year earnings guidance. The healthcare provider now expects adjusted EPS of $22.28 to $23.65 for the year ending December, down from its previous forecast of $22.64 to $24.52.
Cincinnati Financial declined nearly 1% after its second-quarter results missed expectations. Operating EPS came in at $1.43 versus $1.84 expected, while revenue was reported at $2.63 billion versus $2.71 billion expected.
Wall Street ended Monday's session mixed. The Dow rose 0.5%, the S&P 500 edged up 0.02%, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.2% as a sell-off in semiconductor stocks weighed on technology shares.
Investors are bracing for earnings reports from major technology companies including Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and Apple.
The outlook for chipmakers remains closely tied to continued artificial intelligence investment from large cloud providers, even as some megacap technology stocks face pressure.
The Federal Reserve is also scheduled to announce its interest rate decision on Wednesday (Thursday AEST), with investors expecting policymakers to keep rates unchanged at the July meeting while seeking further guidance on future policy moves.
Markets will also monitor Tuesday's consumer confidence report, while quarterly results from Coca-Cola, UPS, Corning and Boeing are scheduled before the opening bell.
