Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to help Donald Trump achieve America's "golden age".
In his inauguration speech this week, United States President Donald Trump, delivered a lengthy address which notably stated that the “golden age” of America was set to start now, with him in office.
While previous statements towards Trump have been firmer and no-nonsense, this time Trudeau, who is set to step down from the top job and hand over to a replacement, responded with promises on helping the U.S. achieve that lofty goal with an emphasis on U.S. national security.
Trudeau said that Canada was a “safe, secure and reliable partner in an uncertain world", with the alternative being ”more resources from Russia, China or Venezuela".
This has been the latest response from Ottawa to try and avoid 25% import tariffs being imposed by a Trump-led U.S., its largest trade partner and closest ally.
Canada is also looking towards targeted tariffs in return on goods like Florida orange juice, in a "dollar-for-dollar" approach which worked during Trump's first term when he placed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium.
