Saudi Arabia has set its sights on building the world’s tallest skyscraper.
The 2,000-metre Rise Tower, costing US$5 billion, is set to be double the height of the current tallest building in the world.
Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is the current tallest and stands at 828 metres. Rise Tower will also dwarf the upcoming Jeddah Tower, which is set to be 1,000 metres tall.
The building is designed by Foster + Partners and will stand as the centrepiece of the Central Business District in Nroth Riyadh as part of the North Pole economic hub.
The North Pole is being described as the city of the future and aims to have a combination of residential, commercial and industrial zones, with Rise Tower set to become a landmark for tourism and business.
The massive economic hub is set to span 300 square metres.
The Public Investment Fund has invited international contracting firms to submit project management bids. The initial close date for the bids was 4 March but was extended until 20 March, as reported by MEED.
Rise Tower is another ambition of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and is set to have 678 floors.
This comes as Saudi Arabia continues to take significant strides in achieving its Vision 2030 program set to create a vibrant and economically thriving nation.
