Samsung is reportedly set to launch its extended reality headset this year to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro.
The new device is expected to include virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) together known as XR which Samsung says aims to merge the digital and physical world.
CNBC reported the device, dubbed Project Moohan, was teased to consumers last year and displayed at the 2025 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Little is known about the cost of the device or other details of its capabilities, however there are four cameras visible in the front lens of the physical headset and touch controls on the side.
The tech giant has worked with Qualcomm and Google to develop a new operating system for its XR devices, which will be known as the Android XR platform.
Samsung also said Google Gemini would be installed in the device allowing users to engage with a conversation interface.
“To me, the breakthrough technology is a combination of advanced vision capability with intelligence that understands user intention. I think without the intelligence part, it’s a defective product,” Patrick Chomet, executive vice president at Samsung’s mobile division, told CNBC.
Virtual reality headsets never took off the way they were expected to, but Samsung was an early player in the market.
As technology continues to advance in areas from displays to chips these new and improved devices have been tipped by big players in the tech industry as a new frontier in the computing experience .
Samsung also recently teased a future product roadmap when it launched its S25 series of smartphones.
Some future devices included a trifold smartphone as well as the Project Moohan headset.
