Qantas will begin flights from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg in December, as Perth Airport seeks to grow its international routes.
These routes will add more than 155,000 seats in and out of Perth each year, according to Qantas. The move comes as Perth Airport expands Terminal 3 and 4 capacity.
“By connecting Perth directly with Auckland and Johannesburg, we’re supporting the local economy by opening valuable inbound tourism opportunities for Western Australia, as well as generating new jobs for the state. These routes also enable further growth throughout Australia with connections across our domestic network,” said Perth Airport chief commercial and aviation officer Kate Holsgrove.
“Our new Perth to Auckland route offers a convenient one-stop connection for West Australians to New York via Auckland on our popular QF3 service, while the new direct flight to Johannesburg provides a vital connection for customers in Perth to visit popular cities like Cape Town through our partnership with Airlink.”
The newly launched routes are now available for booking, and will run three times per week on Airbus A330 aircraft.
Perth Airport is undergoing major renovations that relocate all flight services to its Airport Central precinct, to be completed in 2031. Its Terminals 3 and 4 will also increase their capacity, with the airport issuing a call for new retailers in these terminals last month.
Qantas’ upcoming routes have been allocated funding from the Australian Government to enhance Perth Airport’s biosecurity and border security efforts for further international flights.
The airline also said that it would operate daily Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles, and Boeing 787 flights between Melbourne and Dallas between December 2025 and January 2026.
Qantas’ share price closed at A$9.13, up from its previous close of $9.04. Its market capitalisation is $13.82 billion.
