Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI began rolling out an upgrade to its Grok model over the weekend.
This marks the official release of Grok-2, which was first introduced in beta form to X users in August.
“Over the past few weeks we have been quietly testing a new version of the Grok-2 model, which is three times faster and offers improved accuracy, instruction-following, and multi-lingual capabilities,” according to xAI.
Grok-2 will be able to search the internet, and includes citations for further information.
The Grok chatbot will now host an image generation feature, powered by Aurora, another xAI model.
Grok is available to all users on X, formerly known as Twitter. Premium users have higher usage limits and early access to new features, the company said.
X will also build Grok into its recommendation algorithm, with a new button added to each post that shows users related content.
xAI is privately held, and was founded by Musk in 2023. According to xAI’s estimates, it is now worth US$50 billion.
The company raised US$5 billion in a funding round last month, with investors including Qatar Investment Authority, Andreessen Horowitz, and Valor Equity Partners.
