Microsoft is reportedly planning a series of layoffs that will impact employees across the company.
The company is considering dismissing employees up to level 80, which includes executives, according to Business Insider.
“At Microsoft we focus on high performance talent,” according to a Microsoft spokesperson. "We are always working on helping people learn and grow. When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action.”
These layoffs will target underperforming employees, the spokesperson said, and will affect up to 1% of Microsoft’s workforce.
Microsoft employed 228,000 workers, as of June.
The company dismissed thousands of workers at the beginning of 2023 and 2024. Microsoft laid off around 10,000 employees in early 2023, and dismissed 1,900 workers in its gaming division in January 2024 after acquiring video game company Activision Blizzard.
Microsoft also said this week that it would partner with LG to integrate its Copilot artificial intelligence features into LG’s smart appliances.
It will release last quarter’s full financial results on January 29.
Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) share price closed at US$424.56, up from its previous close at $422.37. Its market capitalisation is $3.16 trillion.
