Meta is launching its own standalone AI app to rival ChatGPT.
According to a blog post, the Meta AI app will be built with Llama 4 and will be a new step towards personalised AI.
“Meta AI is built to get to know you, so its answers are more helpful,” the blog post said.
The app will include its Discover feed, where users can share and explore how others use it. In addition, users can remix prompts to make them their own.
Meta initially launched an AI chatbot in September 2023 and brought it to the forefront of other apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he expected Meta AI to become a leading AI assistant, competing with ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, xAI’s Grok, and Google’s Gemini.
“[2025] is going to be the year when a highly intelligent and personalised AI assistant reaches more than 1 billion people,” he said.
As of January, Meta AI had around 700 million monthly active users, up from 600 million in December.
The announcement comes as Meta hosts its inaugural LlamaCon event in California. In January, Meta said it planned to spend as much as US$65 million to expand its AI infrastructure.
