“Fashion has played a huge role in my life, especially when it came to exploring and finding my sexuality and gender identity.
“I am so proud to be from Melbourne and I am thrilled to help spotlight the hugely talented designers from my hometown as part of my role with this year’s Melbourne Fashion Week.
“In addition to attending a few runways, I am stoked to be playing at this year’s closing runway to help celebrate 30 years of Melbourne Fashion Week."
Over 300 designers are participating, with a mix of independent and well-established names.
300 retailers and 100 events are part of the program.
Other notable figures in the fashion and entertainment industry are expected to attend, though specific names haven't been widely publicised yet.
Economic Impact
MFW significantly boosts the local economy by attracting visitors, generating media coverage, and promoting local businesses.
The City of Melbourne's budget for this year's MFW is reportedly $3 million.
The event is estimated to bring in millions of dollars in revenue through ticket sales, sponsorships, and increased tourism.
What does a fashion show really cost?
M/FW Creative Director Matthew Flinn said: “Melbourne Fashion Week is more than just a runway event – it's a citywide celebration. For 30 years, we’ve proudly championed our brilliant local designers and creatives and solidified Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s fashion capital.
“With a runway-to-retail focus, you can support local businesses by purchasing outfits directly from the show. This year, we’ve expanded the initiative, offering shoppers the chance to win prizes for making retail and beauty purchases in the city during the event.
“Since 2021, Melbourne Fashion Week has contributed more than $84 million in economic benefit – supporting more than 1,000 jobs and giving everyone more reasons to shop and explore Melbourne."
Melbourne Fashion Week runs until October 27.
