ANZ has announced that Maile Carneige will retire as Group Executive Australia Retail on 1 July after an extensive 33-year career.
Carneige has worked in executive roles at ANZ since 2016 and will now take a step back to focus on non-executive roles.
This is the first of many changes in the bank's senior executive positions under new CEO Nuno Matos. After being looked over for the position of CEO, Carnegie informed Matos that she wished to transition to a non-executive career outside of the bank.
“I wish to extend my appreciation for her efforts in supporting my early days as CEO,” Matos said.
“On behalf of everyone at ANZ, I wish her well with the next phase of her career and thank her for all her efforts.”
During her time at the bank, Carnegie was instrumental in ANZ’s A$4.9 billion acquisition of Suncorp and the bank's technology platform, ANZ Plus.
While a global search is underway to fill Carnegie’s shoes, current Suncorp Bank CEO Bruce Rush will fill the role of acting group executive, Australia Retail and Suncorp Bank.
“Bruce is an experienced retail banker who has done an outstanding job as CEO of Suncorp Bank,” Matos said.
“His appointment will also assist with the migration of Suncorp Bank customers to ANZ, while we conduct a global search for the next leader of our retail business in Australia.”
