Australian shares finished modestly higher on Friday as gains in the mining sector helped offset broader market weakness.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 9.1 points, or 0.1%, to close at 8,976.8, despite six of the 11 sectors finishing in negative territory.
For the week, the benchmark index gained 2.3%.
The Materials sector led the advance, with BHP rising 2.0% and Rio Tinto adding 1.3%.
Fortescue fell 1.9% after warning it expects to record a US$525 million (A$747 million) after-tax impairment in its FY26 results, reflecting a revised ramp-up schedule and a range of production scenarios at its Iron Bridge magnetite project in Western Australia.
The miner also reported record iron ore shipments of 201.3 million tonnes in FY26, up 1% from the previous financial year.
Real estate investment trusts also posted gains, with Goodman Group advancing 1.7%, Lendlease rising 1.7% and Vicinity Centres adding 0.8%.
Jeweller Michael Hill climbed 4.5% after forecasting comparable EBIT growth of between 44% and 57% in the 2026 financial year, supported by same-store sales growth across Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
On the bond markets, 10-year and two-year government bond yields fell 0.4% and 0.5% to 4.931% and 4.524%, respectively.
