The Australian sharemarket finished lower on Monday, led by a sell-off in retail and banking stocks as investors weighed a flurry of local earnings reports.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index fell 42.0 points, or 0.5%, to 9,073.2, with eight of the 11 sectors ending lower.
The Consumer Discretionary sector led declines, with JB Hi-Fi shares plunging 12.3% to lead the session's losses. The retailer reported record sales growth and higher full-year profit but fell short of market expectations.
Wesfarmers dropped 4.4%, while Eagers Automotive fell 2.8%.
Financial stocks also declined, with Commonwealth Bank down 1.3%, Westpac losing 0.9% and ANZ falling 2.6%.
National Australia Bank dropped 4.6% after the bank noted in its third quarter trading update that "the combined impacts of the Middle East conflict, higher domestic interest rates and recent tax changes in the Federal Budget are creating challenges and uncertainties for our customers".
In company news, Iress shares tanked 11.6% despite the financial technology company reporting an 85% increase in statutory net profit after tax to $32 million for the first half of FY26.
Iress also announced that chief financial officer Cameron Williamson will leave the company after three years in the role. He will remain in the position for the rest of the year while an international executive search process is undertaken.
Lendlease fell 11.2% after swinging to a net loss of $749 million in fiscal 2026, compared with a profit of $225 million a year earlier.
On the bond markets, the 10-year yield rose 0.6% to 5.017%, while the two-year yield was unchanged at 4.58%.
