The Australian sharemarket rose on Tuesday as investors digested another round of corporate earnings and BHP shares reached a fresh record high.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 61.5 points, or 0.7%, to 9,164.6, with nine of the 11 sectors finishing higher.
Information technology led the gains, with Xero rising 2.6%, TechnologyOne adding 0.8% and NextDC finishing 1.7% higher.
WiseTech Global advanced 4.6% after appointing former Oracle CEO Tim Ebbeck to its board and as chair of the audit and risk committee from 1 September.
Consumer staples also finished higher, with GrainCorp gaining 3.5% and Woolworths adding 0.8%.
Coles rallied 4.9% after reporting net profit after tax of $1.09 billion for the year ended 30 June.
Financial stocks also advanced, with Commonwealth Bank up 0.1%, National Australia Bank adding 0.6%, Westpac rising 0.8% and ANZ gaining 0.5%.
The Materials sector edged higher, with Rio Tinto rising 1.1%, while Fortescue fell 1.2%.
BHP added 0.8% to reset its record closing high.
Among individual movers, Electro Optic Systems led gains on the index, surging 23% after reporting a 286% increase in first-half revenue to $168.8 million. Its contracted order book also rose to $846 million from $170 million a year earlier.
ARB Corporation climbed 13.9% despite reporting a 5.2% decline in full-year statutory net profit after tax to $92.41 million.
On the bond markets, the 10-year yield was 0.1% higher at 4.997%, while two-year rates fell 0.2% to 4.581%.
