Artificial intelligence ranks among the most significant strategic technology trends for 2025, according to a new report by Gartner.
Its top two trends are agentic AI, which is able to take action autonomously, and AI governance platforms.
“Organisations have long wanted to promote high-performing teams, improve cross-functional collaboration and coordinate issues across team networks,” said Gartner Senior Director Analyst Tom Coshow. “Agentic AI has the potential to perform as a highly competent teammate by providing insights from derivative events that are often not visible to human teammates.”
“By 2028, at least 15% of day-to-day work decisions will be made autonomously through agentic AI, up from 0% in 2024,” according to Gartner.
The report says AI governance platforms are a leading trend, being able to assess the potential harms of AI and ensure its performance remains high.
According to the report, AI can also be added to future neurological enhancements, another of its top trends.
Gartner singled out a number of trends in the near future of computing, including post-quantum cryptography, a form of encryption designed to be secure against quantum computing.
The report also numbers energy-efficient computing, spatial computing, and hybrid computing among its top strategic trends for 2025.
Other trends include disinformation security, ambient invisible intelligence, and multi-function robots.
