Royal Wellington Golf Club

About

Royal Wellington's Heretaunga course is arguably New Zealand's finest private members parkland course and certainly one of its most beautiful. Sited on an ancient river bed it weaves its way over crumpled ground through cultivated parkland, hosting thousands of mature native and exotic trees and abundant birdlife. Several creeks, a large lake and undulating greens complexes are all in play and presenting challenges for both the adventurous and the unwary. Royal Wellington is a true test of golf and the most beautiful walk in the park.

Founded in 1895

Royal Wellington is one of New Zealand's premier parkland golf courses and, since its foundation in 1895, has hosted multiple New Zealand Open and National Amateur Championships and an Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

Miramar to Heretaunga

In 1906, the club moved from Miramar to Heretaunga where it remains surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and scenic rivers, including Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River which runs to the west of the club.

1985 to 1895

Led by Ethel Douglas Duncan and Scottish emigre David Howden, women have played an influential role in the history of the club, dating back to the club's beginnings in 1985.

Contemporary in context

While steeped in tradition and heritage, golf remains at the heart of the club. We pride ourselves at ensuring that members, guests and visitors alike enjoy the game we love in a relaxed, friendly environment.

A royal legacy

To commemorate the 250th year of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth granted a royal charter in 2004, bestowing “Royal” status to the club.
