Weve done it before, lets do it again.
At Indigo Power, we believe in the ability of ordinary people, working together to overcome extraordinary challenges. So, we are building a network of community batteries to share clean, locally generated energy and keep the lights on when it matters most.
Local communities should benefit from local energy, and we are making it happen. We have already installed community batteries in Yackandandah, Yarra Junction, and soon, in Wodonga.
Backed by a $4.24 M ARENA grant, we are now ready to deploy ten more batteries from Tumbarumba to Warburton but we need to raise the $1.5M required for our co-contribution first.
Community-owned batteries and local energy sharing.
This raise helps establish Indigo Power clean-energy asset arm.
We will install 680 kW of solar and 5.8 MWh of lithium-iron-phosphate storage across ten emergency relief centres and other important community sites, lifting our fleet to more than 7 MWh.
As a portfolio, the batteries will trade in the National Electricity Market and frequency-control markets. On-site, each battery keeps critical loads running during outages and shares renewable energy to Indigo Power customers in the local community energy hub.
Business Model
Summary
We deliver products and services that assist communities in increasing local renewable energy generation and consumption.
Description
We do this by:
Delivering an electricity retail service that enables energy sharing, connecting customers to energy generated and stored within their local community.
Building, owning, operating and maintaining clean energy infrastructure that supplies community energy hubs with locally generated renewable energy.
Managing high-impact clean energy projects to assist clients in their clean energy aspirations.
Mission
Our purpose is to create a society powered by 100 percent renewable energy in a way that supports and empowers communities.
Business Objectives
Connecting local customers to local renewable energy is at the core of our business.
This raise funds ten new community batteries, lifting our fleet to more than 7 MWh - almost enough to match the 2024 net energy use of our 1700 retail customers.
The fleet will underpin Indigo Power next phase, supporting a long-term asset management business that gives us the scale to enter new markets, adds to our retail business by incorporating shared assets into our energy-sharing platform, and offers flexibility in hedging our retail load.
Industry
Summary
In 2021 Indigo Power launched one of Australias first community batteries and has since continued to develop its expertise in this rapidly expanding field.
Description
Since our first install, community batteries have surged because they meet a clear need. They provide economies of scale that household batteries cannot and complement the significant amount of household solar already in place in many of our communities. They can be installed without needing costly upgrades to the electricity network and, importantly for rural communities, they can provide significant backup power during mains outages.
They can also offer grid services (voltage and frequency stabilisation) to support rural electricity networks by providing instantaneous power.
