Greens leader Adam Bandt has said his party has a hard-line response to not supporting Opposition leader Peter Dutton, at a speech to the Press Club today.
Discussing the possibility of a hung parliament, Bandt also criticised Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's latest statement that he would not be doing deals with the Greens, saying the PM would "have to learn to play well with others”.
“I would be astounded … if the Prime Minister or anyone else refused to respect the parliament that the Australian people choose,” he said.
“If he can convince 51% of the population to vote for him, then OK. But that’s not what’s happening … that’s not what he did last time."
Albanese has remained firm that he is gunning for a majority government, and will not be negotiating with the Greens, despite current polls leaning towards a hung parliament result.
Bandt also said that the upcoming election was a historic chance to create access to healthcare, housing and help the environment.
“A once-in-a-generation chance to create a country where everyone has a right to the basics – food, health, and a home. A safe climate and a healthy environment," he told the Press Club.
"An economy [that] puts people before the profits of the obscenely wealthy and the excessively profitable.”
