Sydney-based games studio, Video Games Deluxe will be rebranded to Rockstar Australia after being acquired by Rockstar Games.
“After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia,” Rockstar Games Head of Publishing, Jennifer Kolbe said.
The relationship between the two gaming companies began when Video Games Deluxe founder, Brandan McNamara’s former studio, Team Bondi worked alongside Rockstar Games on L.A. Noire in 2017.
The two studios maintained the relationship for many years, more recently working on Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition for iOS, Android, Netflix and console.
“It’s been an honour to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade,” said Video Games Deluxe founder Brendan McNamara.
“We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible.”
It is still unclear what specific projects Rockstar’s new Australian arm will be working on.
The most anticipated Rockstar title is Grand Theft Auto 6, which is slated to be released later this year for console and in 2026 for PC.
At the time of writing Take-Two Interactive Software (NASDAQ: TTWO), Rockstar Games’ parent company, stocks are trading for US$207.87, a 3.23% decrease on the previous close of $214.81. The company’s market cap is $36.51 billion.
