Donald Trump’s United States presidential inauguration is set to take place inside the Captiol Rotunda in Washington D.C.
This is the first time in 40 years, the swearing-in won’t take place outside on the Capitol steps, and Trump has already arrived in D.C. to make his initial victory lap.
Despite the freezing temperatures that are set to reach a high of 4-degrees Celsius in Washington, many Trump supporters have already arrived in Washington to support the incoming president.
None of these supporters will be able to see Trump up close though due to the Capitol Rotunda only being able to hold around 600 people.
Australians on the guest list for the inauguration include foreign minister Penny Wong, Kevin Rudd, mining magnate Gina Rinehart, businessman Anthony Prett and PR strategist James Radford.
Several world leaders are also expected to attend as well as Trump allies including billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.
TikTok CEO Shou Chew is also expected to attend the inauguration just after the app was restored in the U.S. following a brief ban.
Trump will be sworn in at on Monday 20 January at 12:00 pm ET (4 am Tuesday, 21 January AEDT).
The event was financed by Trump’s inauguration committee. For his 2017 inauguration, they raised a record US$106.7 million (A$172 million). This year they greatly surpassed his last inauguration, raising US$170 million.
