United States stock futures rose slightly on Tuesday evening (Wednesday AEDT) after gains in technology stocks propelled the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average to new highs.
S&P 500 futures were flat at 6,990.25 by 10:15 am AEDT, Dow Jones futures were up 0.1% to 49,752.00 and Nasdaq futures increased 0.1% to 25,834.
During the regular trading session, the S&P 500 rose 0.6%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.7% to 23,547.17.
The S&P 500’s technology index increased 0.7%, with Amazon shares up 3.4% and Micron up 10%.
Nvidia shares climbed 0.3% in after-hours trading after shedding 0.5% during the day. CEO Jensen Huang said China’s government would likely not make a formal declaration if it permitted Chinese businesses to import Nvidia’s H200 chips.
Oil major stocks shed much of their gains from Monday (Tuesday AEDT) during the day, with Chevron down 4.5%, ExxonMobil falling 3.4%, and ConocoPhillips dropping 2.2%. Chevron and ExxonMobil both rose 0.3% in after-hours trading, however.
The U.S. Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report for December will be released tomorrow. Job vacancies are forecast to be 7.64 million, below the previous month’s 7.67 million.
