United States stock futures were little changed on Monday evening (Tuesday AEST) as investors assessed the impact of higher oil prices on markets while turning their attention towards a busy week of corporate earnings.
By 9:45 am AEST (11:45 pm GMT), Dow futures, S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were each up 0.1%.
During regular trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.6%, the S&P 500 declined 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.1%.
Oil prices advanced on Monday after President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that Tehran would pay for the deaths of three U.S. service members.
U.S. crude futures settled 0.9% higher at US$83.23 a barrel, while international benchmark Brent crude rose 1.3% to $89.22.
The rise in energy prices weighed on the major indexes, although semiconductor stocks recovered some of the sharp losses recorded last week.
Investors will closely monitor corporate earnings this week for signs of continued artificial intelligence investment and whether executives are becoming more cautious about the outlook for the second half of the year.
Major companies scheduled to report results include Alphabet, IBM and Tesla, with investors focusing on AI-related spending and guidance from management teams.
General Motors, Northrop Grumman, and 3M are due to release quarterly results on Tuesday morning, while Chubb is scheduled to report after the closing bell.
