United States equity futures were little changed on Thursday evening (Friday AEST) as traders looked ahead to the August employment report.
By 10 am AEST (12 am GMT), Dow futures, S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq-100 futures were each trading within a range of ±0.1%.
In Thursday's regular session, the three major U.S. benchmark indexes advanced. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.2%, the S&P 500 gained 1.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.4%.
U.S. stocks received a boost as Treasury yields eased after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said he would be “inclined” to support keeping interest rates at their current target range of 3.5% to 3.75% at the central bank's 15-16 September meeting.
Investors are now focused on the week's key market catalyst: the August jobs report, due on Friday morning.
Economists expect the U.S. economy to have added 56,000 non-farm payrolls last month, while the unemployment rate is forecast to remain at 4.1%.
The figures would mark a sharp turnaround from July, when the U.S. economy shed 23,000 jobs.
