The Trump administration has announced that it will be extending its ban on travel for citizens of certain countries to more than 30, in the wake of a man from Afghanistan being accused of shooting two National Guard members.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the expansion of the travel ban. The original travel ban announced in June barred travel to the U.S. for citizens from 12 countries and restricted access for people from seven others.
Noem didn’t give any specifics when talking with Fox News when asked which countries would be added to the ban.
“I won’t be specific on the number, but it’s over 30. And the president is continuing to evaluate countries,” Noem said.
“If they don’t have a stable government there, if they don’t have a country that can sustain itself and tell us who those individuals are and help us vet them, why should we allow people from that country to come here to the United States?”
This is the latest reaction to the two National Guard members who were shot in Washington D.C. last week. An Afghan national has been named as the primary suspect.
Following the shooting, Trump announced that he would pause immigration from “all Third World countries” in an escalation of his already strict immigration policies.
