The United States has announced new sanctions on groups reportedly involved in weapons trade between Iran and Venezuela.
This is the latest move from President Donald Trump in his increasing pressure campaign against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Those targeted in the new sanctions include a Venezuelan company, Empresa Aeronautica Nacional, and three Iran-based individuals, all of which are allegedly involved in the weapons industry and trade between the two nations.
Trump has also threatened direct military action if Iran looks to rebuild its weapons program, as rumours continue that it is working on a new nuclear program.
“Iran’s ongoing provision of conventional weapons to Caracas constitutes a threat to U.S. interests in the Western Hemisphere, including the Homeland, and the United States will use all available measures to prevent this trade,” the Treasury Department said in a statement about the new sanctions.
