UPDATED: New York prosecutors have charged 26-year-old Luigi Mangione with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brain Thompson.
The suspect was charged with one count of murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession, one count of second-degree possession of a forged document and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a firearm.
Magione appeared in person for a preliminary arraignment just hours after his arrest on Monday evening (EST).
Mangione verbally pushed back against two claims from prosecutors in court, the first claim was because of a claim that Mangione was found with US$8,000 in cash and was trying to evade police, and the other was that he had a Faraday bag on him, which blocks cell signal.
He was ordered to be held without bail and did not enter a plea. His next court appearance will be on December 23 in Pennsylvania, pending an expected warrant from New York.
The FBI and NYPD were in Altoona, Pennsylvania as investigators interviewed the suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO.
Mangione was arrested on gun charges after an employee at McDonald’s in Altoona Pennsylvania saw him “sitting there eating” and called police.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny credited the spotting of the 26-year-old to widely circulated images of a photo of the person without the mask on circulated by the NYPD.
