The United Kingdom could become a sticking point in the Paramount takeover of Warner Bros.
The deal may be referred to the nation's antitrust regulator, with the culture minister, Lisa Nandy, expressing concerns over the impact the proposed takeover could have on the media landscape.
While the deal has already been approved by the United States, China, Australia, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia, the review by Britain could lead to considerable delays.
The current deal proposal is also being assessed current by European Union antitrust regulators are also assessing the deal, along with Britain's Competition and Markets Authority.
The CMA will decide on August 7th whether it will launch a further investigation into the deal or not.
"I am mindful of the need to reach a final decision in a timely manner, and I will endeavour to do so as appropriate," Nandy said last week, with both companies given a deadline of 6 July to respond to her concerns.
While Paramount owns Britain's free-to-air Channel 5, Channel 5's news is provided by ITN, a third-party organisation.
