United States President Donald Trump’s birthday in June will reportedly be marked with a parade through Washington, but the White House denies a military aspect.
Trump's 79th birthday happens to land on 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army this year, 14 June.
Set for that date, the parade is said to span close to six and a half kilometres from the Pentagon to the White House, which was confirmed by an Army official source to the Washington City Post, with the source adding “there are plans for a parade that will involve the Army,” but that these weren’t locked in as of yet.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and other local officials confirmed on Monday they had been in discussion with Trump administration officials about plans for a military parade this summer, but the White House has denied these plans.
This will fulfil a dream of Trump’s from his first term, when he first pushed for a military parade on the streets of D.C. back in 2018.
These plans were cancelled after military leaders said it would cost $92 million and after District officials complained that heavy military equipment—tanks and planes included—would tear up the roadways and cost $21 million just for parade public safety.
