TikTok has launched a massive ad campaign highlighting the app's benefits to teens as the under-16 social media ban in Australia approaches.
As part of the campaign, the social media platform has placed four and a half pages worth of ads in the Australian Financial Review. These ads promote the app's utility for teens to read and engage with education.
There are also similar ads on billboards and bus shelters.
Advertisements in the 26 May AFR edition claim that TikTok has up to 10 million videos on its STEM feed. Other ads claim the platform boosts literacy through the massively popular “bookTok”.
Another TikTok campaign claims to help Australian teenagers get outside.
This comes after the Australian government passed legislation banning children under 16 from social media platforms in November last year.
The bill is set to take effect later this year; however, it is still unclear how it will work. Some platforms, like YouTube, are exempt from the ban.
