Renault 17: A Visionary Restomod that Preserves the Original Spirit
The Renault 17, an iconic sports coupé which that has stood the test of time, has taken the leap into the modern era. This is while respecting its distinctive elements, according to Ïto. The objective was to introduce a fluid and elegant touch without distorting the original avant-garde design, preserving the spirit and overall lines of the vehicle.
With restomods, the concept of blending restoration and modification comes into play. This allows for the preservation of classic charm while incorporating contemporary materials and technology. This R17 is no exception, embodying the essence of this intriguing concept.
One of the key aspects of this project was the preservation of the original cockpit, the structure of the seats, and the spirit of the interior upholstery. This was done while injecting a touch of modernity. The team has meticulously revamped the dashboard, introduced updated fabrics, revitalised door panels, and redesigned seat cushions, emphasising the crucial role that details play in enhancing the overall experience.
The original R17 catered to a discerning audience, offering powerful performance with its 1.6 L transverse electronic fuel-injected engine. Between 1971 and 1979, Renault plants produced close to 100,000 units, solidifying its position as a sought-after automobile among collectors today.
