Tesla has opened its first all-in-one integrated Tesla centre in India, amid weak sales in the country.
The centre will be the biggest of its kind in India as it combines retail, after-sales service, delivery and charging facilities all under one roof.
“Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy”, Tesla India general manager Sharad Agarwal said.
“By building charging infrastructure that fits people’s daily lives, we are making electric driving convenient for everyone in India.
“The network will expand rapidly for a seamless EV experience.”
Dealership data shows Tesla sold just over 100 cars in India since its debut in the country in July this year.
Sources told the BBC that the EV maker is now focusing on strengthening India’s EV ecosystem in a bid to revive sales momentum.
Bloomberg reported that Tesla received orders for just over 600 cars since launching sales in mid-July.
The entry-level Tesla model is priced over 6 million rupees in India due to high import taxes, making the base variant of the Model Y out of reach for many consumers.
EVs currently account for less than 3% of passenger vehicle sales in India, and charging infrastructure has been slow to develop, with only 25,000 charging stations nationwide.
This comes as there has been a broad slowdown in Tesla sales across some of its biggest markets.
The company’s sales fell in October despite record quarterly revenue.
The firm said revenue for the three months to the end of September hit a record US$28 billion, up 12% from the same time last year.
But the company's profits dropped by 37% for the same period, partly due to extra costs linked to tariffs and research and development.
