Apple has released its list of the most downloaded apps of 2024 in the U.S., with Chinese shopping site Temu taking out the top spot.
Another Chinese app that earned itself a high ranking on the list is ByteDance’s TikTok, which took out the third spot, despite doubts over its ability to continue operating in the U.S.
Temu’s biggest competitor in the fast fashion industry, Shien came in at number 12.
According to data from StatCounter, Apple accounts for over 56% of the U.S. mobile phone market.
Temu was first launched in 2022 and has since grown exponentially to compete with Amazon.
However, the shopping site isn’t without controversy. A survey commissioned by e-commerce marketing company Omnisend of 4,000 people across the U.S., UK, Canada, and Australia found that 94% of respondents don’t trust Temu.
The Chinese company is also facing scrutiny from U.S. officials following the most recent election, with the Trump administration proposing tariffs as high as 60% to 100% on goods from China.
Other apps on Apple’s most downloaded free apps list include Threads, ChatGPT, Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, CapCut and YouTube.
