The United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a statement confirming that several picks in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration have been subject to threats of bombing and swatting in the days since their nominations.
In their statement, the FBI said they have been made aware of the numerous threats and they are working with their law enforcement partners on the matter.
“We take all potential threats seriously and, as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement,” the statement said.
The threats were made Tuesday night and Wednesday morning (AEDT) and law enforcement acted quickly to ensure the safety of those targeted, according to Trump transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt confirmed that cabinet nominees including Lee Zeldin and Elise Stefanik were among those targeted.
“Several of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them,” she wrote in a press release.
Both Zeldin and Stanik took to social media to post about the threats and confirm that their families are currently safe.
“We are thankful for the swift actions taken by local officers to keep our family, neighbors, and local community secure,” Zeldin posted.
We want to share our best wishes to the Upstate NY community for a happy and safe Thanksgiving,” Stanik posted.
“We are especially grateful to our law enforcement officers and military families who are on duty over the holiday season.”
The Associted Press news agency also reported that incoming chief of staff, Susue Wiles, former general pick Matt Gaetz and his replacement Pam Bondi were also targeted according to an anonymous law enforcement official.
