A massive fire has broken out at a newly built court complex recycling plant, sending thick smoke across the area.
The smoke is visible from the suburbs to the Eiffel Tower, causing fears of another Notre-Dame level disaster.
The Paris Fire Department deployed around 200 firefighters and 60 engines alongside two aerial platforms.
The blaze is believed to have started in the basement and is still not under control, with the authorities urging people to avoid the area.
Authorities reported no casualties.
The Syctcom recycling plant where the fire occurred is one of the city’s largest recycling plants, and the staff has been evacuated.
“The building is completely gutted and destroyed,” mayor of the affected 17th arrondissement Geoffrey Boulard said in an interview with BFM television.
“Firefighters arrived very quickly, but the fire started underground and then spread through the building.”
The plant began operations in 2019 and was designed to process household waste for nearly a million Paris residents.
