On Thursday, union workers at Melbourne Airport will walk off the job as part of a longer strike.
This industrial action will start in Melbourne and spread to all major airports across the country over the next two weeks, according to the Qantas Engineers' Alliance, which is made up of the Australian Workers Union, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, and Electrical Trades Union.
Steve Murphy, the AMWU national secretary, said engineers were underpaid and underappreciated.
Qantas' Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are taking part in the industrial action.
Union members are seeking a pay increase of 5% per year plus 15% in the first year.
Workers will stop working at a number of Australian airports on Thursday and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week.
According to a spokesperson for Qantas, it has put in place contingency plans to prevent customer disruption.
