Australians have less than 24 hours to enter tonight's $100 million Powerball draw. They have a chance to join only six others to win the nine-digit prize in Australian lottery history.
It is anticipated that thousands of entries per minute will be generated at lottery outlets and online as players rush to grab a last-minute entry before the draw closes at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday.
The $100 million Powerball prize marks the biggest Australian lottery offer in three months. It is the sixth-largest jackpot in Australian lottery history.
The last $100 million Powerball winner, an Aspley woman, revealed she almost lost the ticket she bought from Nextra Chermside — the very ticket that secured her life-changing $100 million prize.
According to Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell, up to half of Australian adults are expected to enter.
“This $100 million Powerball jackpot is the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in more than three months, and we do anticipate a huge rush across the country,” she said.
“The last time Powerball offered a $100 million prize was in August when the peak of sales was at 6.17pm on the day of the draw when 8,681 tickets were sold in a single minute.
“On that occasion, the entire $100 million prize was won by an Aspley woman who discovered her winning ticket in her car glovebox.
The last $100 million Powerball ticket was sold by Nextra Chermside manager Cara Hickey, who described the experience as incredible. This Thursday night will be an exciting night for her team, she shared.
“It’s been amazing! The buzz that it has created with our customers has been nothing short of incredible! Selling one of Queensland’s biggest winning entries is something we’re very proud of!” she said.
"We’re thrilled for our division one winner and hope they’re doing wonderfully! As the saying goes, 'one ticket can change it all,' and it certainly did for this local Aspley family.
"When it was announced in August that our outlet had sold the $100 million winning Powerball ticket, our phones were ringing nonstop, and we had TV cameras everywhere capturing quotes and footage for the national news!
“We’ve become the go-to store at Westfield Chermside with customers even taking “selfies” outside the shop and against our dream wall.
"We’ve even had customers from interstate visiting Brisbane who went out of their way to stop by our store and buy their next ticket, which made us feel truly special.
“With another $100 million prize up for grabs this Thursday night, we can’t wait to see what happens and hopefully we’ll be a part of changing someone else’s life once again!”
Powerball draw 1489 will take place on Thursday, 28 November 2024. Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online at thelott.com, or via the The Lott mobile app.
Over $758 million was won by 19 Powerball division one winners in FY24.
In this period, the Powerball jackpot reached $200 million, the largest in Australian history. A man from Adelaide won $150 million in the lottery, the largest individual win in the country.
New South Wales accounted for eight of the 19 winning entries in Powerball division one in FY24, Victoria six, Queensland three, and South Australia one.
Australian lotteries operate and market their leading lottery games through The Lott, the official home of Australia's lotteries. The result is everyday winners, winning every day.
The Lott gave away more than $4.4 billion in prize money in FY24 to more than 132.8 million winners. Among these games were Saturday Lotto, Weekday Windfall, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno (SA), Super 66, Lotto Strike, and Instant Scratch-Its.
As a result of state lottery taxes and donations, Australia's official lotteries contributed more than $1.8 billion in the last financial year. The purpose was to assist community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief, and education.
