The Porsche Macan has arrived in Australia with its all-electric version launched in December 2024.
It marks a significant shift for the popular SUV, which now runs entirely on electricity instead of internal combustion engines.
"The new Macan successfully combines four essentials," said Daniel Schmollinger, CEO and Managing Director of Porsche Cars Australia. "Porsche performance, long-distance range and everyday usability wrapped in a progressive, timeless design."
A range of four variants are available for the updated Macan, including single-motor and dual-motor drives, based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) co-developed with Audi.
Entry-level Macans start at $128,400, which is a significant increase from previous petrol-powered models.
In spite of the higher price, the electric Macan has impressive performance stats, with a 0-100km/h time and a range of up to 654km for the base model.
At $184,400, the higher-end Macan Turbo offers even more power and performance, with a 0-100km/h time of 3.3 seconds and a range of 591km.
“This new Macan would easily show a clean set of heels to plenty of fast sports cars,” said Luke Youlden, Porsche Chief Driving Instructor.
Macan's interior has also been upgraded significantly. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated into the 10.9-inch central touchscreen and 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster.
With heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic roof, and Bose surround sound, the cabin offers a premium and tech-savvy experience.
The Macan's all-electric drive echoes the trend towards sustainability and reducing emissions in the broader industry.
It is expected that the move will appeal to eco-friendly consumers who are seeking high-performance electric vehicles.
Despite its high price tag, the Macan is likely to attract a loyal following due to its combination of luxury, performance, and eco-friendliness.
Schmollinger said: “You think you’re driving a pure sports car until you realise you’re in a quiet and comfortable luxury SUV.”
With the arrival of the Porsche Macan in Australia, the electric vehicle market has taken a major step forward. Consumers are offered a powerful, luxurious option aligned with the global shift towards sustainable transportation.
