Content creators and influencers are being offered up to US$5000 (A$7,972) by Meta to join Facebook and Instagram.
Meta has advertised the "Breakthrough bonus programme" on their website, saying that those who join from "third-party social apps" will get the cash based incentives based on "an evaluation of your social presence".
It also promises to pay the money within 90 days on the app, though only to United States-based content creators who make the move, haven't been monetised on Facebook or Instagram before, and on the proviso they are posting regularly.
While TikTok isn’t mentioned by name, Meta’s move comes just days after its short-lived ban and following uncertainty surrounding the app.
Prior to the ban, TikTok users had already begun to migrate en masse to a Chinese app of a similar structure, RedNote, and some are continuing to do so despite TikTok being re-instated.
TikTok reports having 170 million users in the U.S., many using the platform for income and livelihoods, leading many to seek alternative platforms before and during the 14-hour ban.
