The Australian share market is set to extend its gains today following another strong performance by United States stocks overnight.
At 9:22 am (AEDT) the December 2024 contract of the ASX share price (SPI) 200 index was trading at 8,452, up 18 points (0.21%).
U.S. equity indices reached new highs on Monday (Tuesday AEDT) in a positive response to the appointment of investment manager Scott Bessent as U.S. Treasury Secretary by President-elect Donald Trump.
In response to the market-friendly nomination, U.S. Treasury yields and the U.S. dollar index fell with the 10-year yield dropping to three-week lows of 4.269%.
In Australia on Monday equities strengthened with the S&P/ASX 200 Index adding 0.3% to a record closing level of 8,417.6.
Among market sensitive announcements so far today, Brickworks (ASX: BKW) lodged its annual general meeting presentation.
On bond markets, 10-year yields fell 0.006 (0.14%) to 4.419% but two-year rates rose 0.002 (0.005%) to 4.003%.
