Hawar Resort by Mantis, a luxury eco-tourism site in Bahrain, will open to the public in early December 2024.
The resort will sit on Hawar Island, surrounded by a wildlife sanctuary. Hawar Resort is the product of a partnership between Edamah, a real estate subsidiary of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, and Accor’s Mantis group.
“This project is of immense strategic importance to the Kingdom, reflecting our vision to promote sustainable tourism while showcasing Bahrain’s natural beauty and preserving it for future generations,” said Edamah chairman Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Hawar Resort by Mantis will feature 102 keys, including luxury villas, as well as restaurants, spas, and leisure facilities.
It will also include a Bear Grylls Survival Academy. The survival brand has been expanding in the Middle East in recent years, with several new branches also planned for Saudi Arabia.
“The development of the Hawar Resort by Mantis follows a sustainable and environmentally aware approach, respecting the unique environment of the island,” according to the Bahrain Economic Development Board. “Initiatives such as waste sorting, biodegradable waste reuse, and water and energy conservation technologies will minimise the project’s environmental impact.”
The resort was first unveiled in 2021.
Hawar Resort’s opening date was announced at the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum, which will run from 3-4 November.
Bahrain's government also said at the forum that it will issue over 10,000 Golden Residency Permits in a bid to enhance economic growth and attract talent.
Property owners, skilled professionals, and long-serving employees are eligible, based on their property value or monthly salary.
Edamah showcased its plans for a Digital City project in Hamala at the forum, in partnership with Beyon. The Digital City will be a technologically interconnected mixed-use development, and construction will begin in 2025.
