Lonely Planet released its 2025 Best in Travel guide on Wednesday, highlighting its top destinations to visit next year.
The guide includes its top 10 countries, cities, and regions, as well as its top 10 travel trends for 2025.
“While mindful of our responsibilities and impact as travellers, we're proud of the destinations, journeys and experiences featured here, and we are excited to share the local expertise and insight at the heart of these recommendations,” said Nitya Chambers, Lonely Planet's SVP, Content and Executive Editor.
The Lonely Planet guide was compiled by its editors, writers, and international contributors, and both print and abridged online versions are available.
The list’s top country for 2025 is Cameroon, and singles out its white sand beaches, African Modernist architecture, and national parks.
Other top-ranking countries include Lithuania, Fiji, and Laos.
Its top city is Toulouse, France, with the guide spotlighting its music scene and cuisine. Puducherry, India, and Bansko, Bulgaria are ranked second and third.

Lonely Planet’s top-ranking regions are the United States’ Georgia/South Carolina Lowcountry, Nepal’s Terai, and Panama’s Chiriqui. Australia’s Launceston and Tamar Valley placed fourth.
According to Lonely Planet, major travel trends to watch next year include train-hopping, slow travel, and music venues.
National Geographic also revealed its Best of the World 2025 ranking on Tuesday. Hiking the volcanoes of Guatemala placed first on its list of top travel experiences.
World’s 50 Best gave out its awards for the best bars worldwide this week, with Mexico City’s Handshake Speakeasy atop the rankings.
