South Korean appliance heavyweight LG has confirmed that its fully transparent Signature OLED T will be available for purchase in Australia later this year.
While the exact price for Australia is yet to be confirmed, the 77-inch Signature OLED T TV is currently available in the U.S. for US$59,999 (A$96,294.22).
LG said this luxury product will appeal to “a very high-end customer”.
“The price isn’t finalised at the moment but it is really high, that’s the simple term for it. It’s like most technology,” said LG Australia’s home entertainment marketing chief Tony Brown.
“We start off by making hundreds and when we start making thousands it becomes more efficient.”
Other products in LG’s OLED range currently range in price locally, with the OLED 97-inch M4 Smart TV with Wireless Video & Audio Transfer currently valued at A$41,999.
This latest addition to the OLED range delivers a viewing “screen” in a custom piece of frame furniture, rendering 4K images at 120Hz, complete with LG’s Zero Connect Box already used for its wireless TV range.
Turned off, the screen is completely transparent, with the option to cycle through images, serving as a piece of art in the home.
Once on, users can choose to keep the transparency or utilise a blind in the back of the TV to convert to a traditional screen.
LG has also partnered with Microsoft incorporating its Copilot technology to improve its AI capabilities in this world-class design.
Major competitor Samsung unveiled its transparent screen design alongside LG at the CES convention in 2024, but has since stated it has no current plans to sell its MicroLED transparent TV for home use.
Samsung is first targeting the market for the commercial use of the technology for businesses and showrooms.
